How to use Facebook

For those of you who are taking my classes, I’ve created a Facebook page which will make it easier for you to share your work with your friends and classmates.

You don’t have to be a member of Facebook to see the page. However if you are a member you’ll be able to tag, or upload, your classwork so that your friends can see it too. Additionally, as a Facebook member, you’ll also be able to ‘like’ this page Check Spellingwhich means you’ll see any updates on your main feed. I fully encourage you to use the wall on this page to share watercolor resources and tips with your classmates.

Here’s your quick guide to using this Facebook page

This tutorial is intending for those who may never have used Facebook before. To access the Facebook page please click here: Floy Zittin Watercolor Class Facebook page. Generally speaking, when the page loads it’s going to look something like this:

If you’re a Facebook member make sure to click the big blue ‘Like’ button at the top of the screen. If you ‘Like’ this page it simply means that you’ll get a notice whenever new paintings have been added. Here’s what the button looks like:

At the top of the screen, just underneath the black text that says ‘Floy Zittin Watercolor Classes’, you’ll see a row of tabs that are labelled; Wall, Info, Photos, Friday Class Schedule and Monday Class Schedule.  You can click on any of these items, here’s a brief explanation of what each tab is for:

  • Wall – The ‘wall’ is the first page that you see when you visit the class page, it’s kind of like a website’s homepage. It will show all the recent activity that’s happened on Facebook for our classes.  Mostly I’ll be using this wall to publish albums from recent classes. You’ll note that the wall only displays the first three paintings from an album. If you want to see the full album make sure that you click on the bold blue text that appears under the paintings, this is the album name. In this graphic, I’ve put a red box around the album name to show you where to find it:

Once you click on the album name, you’ll be able to see the whole album. When you’re on the album page you can hoover your cursor over any of the paintings to get more information on that painting. You can also click on any of the paintings to see them in greater detail.

Please note that you have to be a Facebook member to add comments, pictures and ‘like’ a painting.

How to add a new comment to the wall
If you’re a member of facebook you can add comments or your recent watercolor paintings by using the field at the top that looks like this:

You can simply type text into the ‘What’s on your mind?’  box if you want to share your watercolor tips and questions with your classmates.  When you’ve got the wording right, simply click the ‘Share’ button.

How to add a picture of your most recent watercolor
If you would like to share a painting that you’ve recently completed, you’ll need to have a digital photograph of it. To upload it onto this page to share, in the ‘Attach’ options near the bottom of the box, click on the ‘Photos’ graphic as I’ve illustrated here:

  • Once you click on that button Facebook will guide you through uploading the photograph of your watercolor to the page.  Once you’ve found the right photo, make sure you click the ‘Share’ button to make it public. This is a great way to share your current work with your classmates.

How to comment on a post that already exists
It’s always nice to receive a comment on your work or get a ‘like’ by a friend. If you’ve got a nice comment that you’d like to share, please make sure to do so, here’s how:
Under each post on a wall you’ll see three options: ‘Comment’, ‘Like’ and ‘Share’.  I’ve highlighted these options in a red box in the graphic below. These options also appear against each album and each painting within an album.

It’s fairly simple, if you click the text that says ‘Comment’ a field will appear where you can type your comment. When you’re done, make sure to hit the blue button underneath the field that says ‘Comment’ and this will make your comment public on the wall. If you want to ‘Like’ a painting, album or comment, this simply leaves a note against it that says you like it. This is very easy to do and is very appreciated by those who receive them. As you can see in the above example, one person has liked the album and one person has left a comment against the album.

  • Info - This tab simply holds the links back to the main ‘Class’ section of my website.
  • Photos – If you click on this tab, you’ll be able to see all the Albums, arranged by date,  that have been created for my watercolor classes.  When you click on the tab, you should land on a page that looks similar to this:

The red box highlights that we’ve already got 3 pages worth of albums for our watercolor classes. To view the other pages, simply click on the page number you want to see or the text that says ‘Next’.  You can view any album by clicking on the painting or on the blue text that appears underneath it.

If you’re a member of Facebook and you’d like ‘Tag’ your paintings so that your friends can see them, please feel free to do so! It’s great to share your artwork with your friends.

  • Friday Class Schedule & Monday Class Schedule - These two tabs hold the class schedules for current sessions.

I hope that this tutorial will help you enjoy the Facebook page more. I fully encourage you to participate and post as often as you like on the Facebook Watercolor Class pages.
