Several of my paintings have been included in STUDIO Gallery’s ‘tiny’ show .  There are over 170 artists displaying pieces under 7″ x 7″.  The show runs through December 23 and I will be at their anniversary reception on December 4, 2-6 pm.

Cardinal

I have resisted painting cardinals because they are not found locally – although I really look forward to seeing them when we visit my parents in Ohio.  However, these last few months I have been getting requests for cardinals – people like red, it is associated with Stanford, and people have moved here from back east – so I’ve had lots of fun playing with these brilliant birds.  I must say, these small cardinal paintings go quickly.

It was gratifying to see so many paintings fly away at my reception.  It was a fun afternoon even with the lights going out.   Slava was kind enough to take these photos.

White-crowned sparrows have returned to our yard.  The leaves are turning and here I was inspired by a particularly beautiful red-bud tree in a friends garden.

California Quail

California Quail are one of my favorite birds to work with.  We frequently see them on our walks and they always make me smile.   There is often one male on lookout and that is what I thought about painting this image.

Titmice

Titmice have been fairly common in our yard this fall.  We often see two in the same area although they seem to be scavenging independently.   I find them a challenging bird to paint because they do not have strong markings or colors.
